Given the politically charged atmosphere that surrounds affirmative action programs at institutions of higher education, it is essential for educators who value diversity to implement the best practices for recruiting, retaining and graduating students from under-represented groups. This qualitative grounded theory study examined the perceptions and involvements of students and alumni who are or were engaged in multicultural program activities at predominantly White state university in a rural area of California.
